Website Updates
Somehow, I felt that simply transferring the CMS and content over from the PowerKeys Publishing site might not work as smoothly as I'd hoped.
Actually, it was in trying to update the software to a newer version where the real problems came in. This site is based on the Drupal CMS, and when a new version comes out, it usually takes some time before all the extra modules (things like product reviews) are updated to work with the new version. In the meantime, much of the old content is locked away where no-one can find it.
I gave up in waiting for the extra modules to be updated, so I decided that the cleanest solution was to simply re-install the software and re-load the content from scratch. This has 2 potentially distracting side-effects.
First, the links to various articles and blog posts may not be the same as they were. This may break bookmarks and links posted to other sites.
And second, this wipes out all membership information, so anyone who had a member account here will have to recreate it.
I don't plan to move the software anywhere else, and I've been so impressed with Drupal in general, and this new version in particular that I won't be switching to another CMS either, so this time it's for real. Anyone who wants to create a member account, bookmark pages, or post links to other sites may do so without worry about the future. What's here now is here to stay.
